What is Transformative Consciousness?

At its most basic, Transformative Consciousness is a blending of mindfulness, somatic experiencing, and social justice philosophies. It understands individual transformation as the gateway to collective social healing.

Transformative Consciousness is living the inner out loud. It’s unlearning and relearning who we understand ourselves to be. It’s placing ourselves in relation to the collective. It’s actualizing our potential as individuals and as a global community. It’s not allowing social differences to stand as barriers between us. It encourages us to be fearless and courageous as we stand in our own hearts and truth while holding space for others to do the same.

Transformative Consciousness is a way of being in the world that honors each of our unique expressions, backgrounds, and histories, while focusing on where we want to go and what kind of world we want to build. It is based upon principles of collaboration, cooperation, dialogue, co-creation, responsibility, accountability, integrity, and truth. It understands individual healing as a gateway to collective transformation. It honors that inner flows outer, and recognizes that the energy within our fields is necessarily connected to our actions and the world we choose to build for ourselves and each other.

Transformative Consciousness is an ideal. It is a practice. It is a model for building ethical, reciprocal relationships that honor our interdependence and foster a coalitional mode of living. It is a mindset that allows us each to step into our gifts to become leaders and changemakers in our communities by utilizing heart-based, pragmatic mind-body-spirit tools that are to be shared, cultivated, questioned, and built upon.

Transformative Consciousness offers itself as a spark, as a catalyst for change, whose expression is carried out differently in each community in correspondence with its unique needs and values. It is a flexible ethos that teaches people how to listen to their hearts, how to honor that truth, and to bring that inner truth to bear on the outer world.

Over the years I’ve thought a lot about what mindfulness circles and social justice circles have to offer each other. My own critiques are that "mindfulness" too often becomes code for “white,” “elite,” and “apolitical,” and that social justice rhetorics too often transpire into hatred of existing systems instead of love of justice.  With a foot in both worlds, Transformative Consciousness draws upon these different realms of my knowledge, lessons, commitments, and passions to practice a pragmatic spiritual activism that provides meaningful, tangible healing tools to those in need.

To carry out this vision, Transformative Consciousness Coaching and Consulting provides an array of individual, group, and institutional programming to meet people where they are at in their healing journeys, and to honor the inherent interconnectedness between the microcosm and the macrocosm. Transformative Consciousness believes in the innate goodness of people’s hearts and believes that when we are able to truly dive deep into our own healing and fill our own cup, that deep sense of wholeness and gratitude necessarily flows out into our communities and spheres of influence, whether through our parenting, our work environments, or our advocacy work.

I come to this work with deep humility and a desire to be of service through a mind-body-spirit approach that reconnects people with their bodies and intuition. This work is motivated by the desire for us all to be able to live flourishing, authentic lives in which we are able to show up as our full selves and hold space for others to do the same.
